DARRYL SAMPSON, Financial Coach

Darryl Sampson is a former professional Canadian football player and a graduate of York University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Law and Society. He was selected as the second overall pick by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 1986 Canadian College Draft. Wearing number 30, Darryl played for the Blue Bombers from 1986 to 1995 and then donned number 33 for the Hamilton Tiger Cats in 1996. His decade-long career with Winnipeg was distinguished by participation in four Grey Cups, with championship victories in 1988 and 1990. He also earned a place on both the East and CFL All-Star teams in 1993.

After retiring from professional football, Darryl transitioned into coaching, becoming an assistant coach at his alma mater, York University, from 1996 to 1998, where he focused on coaching defensive backs and special teams. He later returned to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as a guest coach in 2000 and served as an assistant coach during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

In recognition of his contributions on the field, Darryl was inducted into the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Hall of Fame in 2004. His legacy extends beyond the football field, as he was also honored in 2023 as one of the first inductees into the Lester B. Pearson Hall of Fame, his high school's Hall of Fame.

In addition to his football and coaching career, Darryl has built a multifaceted professional life. He has worked as an accountant for The Yonge Street Mission in Toronto and has over 20 years of experience as a finance and accounting manager, treasurer, and comptroller. His expertise is further supported by his certifications in financial planning and behavioral finance.

Darryl is also an entrepreneur, licensed life insurance agent, licensed mutual fund agent, businessperson, as well as, a motivational and inspirational speaker. He is a published author, having written a memoir poetry book titled The Football Poet, which reflects his unique blend of athletic and creative expression.

Darryl resides in Mississauga with his wife, Angela, and have three adult daughters, Tinika, Octavia, and Janae.
